The word for «crab» (蟹, xiè) sounds similar to the word for «harmony,» and its shell was likened to an official’s cap. For this reason, images of crabs were given to those striving for rank and recognition, those seeking an official position.
During the Silk Road era, merchants transported not only silk and jade but also ideas of status. Success was measured not by speed, but by strategy. The crab moves sideways, yet it reaches its goal. It is protected, composed, and precise.
