Maklaud Sun the King
Sun Wu Kong — The Monkey King: A Spark of Chaos on the Path to Enlightenment.
Journey to the West is one of the greatest masterpieces of Chinese literature. Written in the 16th century, it became more than just a novel—it evolved into a spiritual map, a myth of inner transformation and a powerful allegory of the path to enlightenment. This story of a monk and his three companions continues to inspire and be reimagined in film, animation, gaming, and literature. It has also taken shape in our work—through sculptural interpretations of its iconic characters.
Sun Wu Kong, the Monkey King, is one of the most dazzling figures in Journey to the West, and perhaps the most beloved rebel in Chinese mythology.
Born of stone and fire, Sun Wu Kong is a being of elemental energy and celestial light. A fusion of unrestrained power, genius, and mischief, he wields the magical staff Ruyi Jingu Bang, battles demons, deceives heavenly officials, and walks the journey from destroyer to protector.
In the Sun Wu Kong sculpture, we aimed to capture the dynamic essence of this eternal warrior—his tense motion, focused gaze, frozen in the moment just before another clever strike. He seems to hover, suspended in meditation before action. The wind stirs his robes; his grip tightens on the legendary staff. This is not the trickster of legend—but the enlightened warrior who has found his purpose.
Unique materials and artistic approach
Maklaud products are handmade from the sketch and prototype of the model to polishing and packaging, which explains their exclusivity and quality corresponding to works of art of small forms. The work uses classic, as well as alternative materials and technologies, which we constantly research and successfully master in our work.
