Sha Seng — The Water Spirit: A River that Wears Down Stone
Journey to the West is one of the greatest masterpieces of Chinese literature. Written in the 16th century, it became more than just a novel—it evolved into a spiritual map, a myth of inner transformation and a powerful allegory of the path to enlightenment. This story of a monk and his three companions continues to inspire and be reimagined in film, animation, gaming, and literature. It has also taken shape in our work—through sculptural interpretations of its iconic characters.
Sha Seng, or Sha Wujing, is the silent guardian of the depths—the most patient of disciples. He doesn’t seek glory or recognition. He moves steadily forward, down the river of karma, with quiet strength and unwavering acceptance.
Once a general of the Heavenly Army, he was cast down to the mortal world for a single misstep. Water became his element—cleansing, dissolving, embracing. His power lies not in the storm, but in the flow. His strength lies in stillness.
In Maklaud’s vision, Sha Seng appears as a solemn water guardian. His posture is poised, his expression stern, his gaze focused. One hand grips a long ceremonial spear-staff, the other holds firm in a gesture of control. His costume and stance echo warrior traditions, but his essence is water—shifting, strong, and guided by depth of purpose.
Sha Seng is for those who speak little but act with precision. For those unafraid to dive into darkness—only to emerge as themselves.
Unique materials and artistic approach
Maklaud products are handmade from the sketch and prototype of the model to polishing and packaging, which explains their exclusivity and quality corresponding to works of art of small forms. The work uses classic, as well as alternative materials and technologies, which we constantly research and successfully master in our work.
